I redid my headliner today and must say, it turned out really well.
thanks for the writeup! I seem to have misplaced the Dome light screws and I want to make sure I use the right replacements.
Can anyone give me a thread type, size and length.
It would be nice for the dome light to work and not have three tits sticking up on the roof of my car.;)

Dome light in the center or front? I may have pics somewhere.

They're all self-threading Phillips head screws, btw. Black.

Didn't happen if we don't see pictures! ;) What headliner material did you use?

Make sure you use the correct length screws. If they are a little long you'll create an unwanted protrusion through the roof.

Lets see, The Material is from Joanne Fabric's foam backed and I used 3M Headliner Adhesive.
The Dome light is the one in the middle of the headliner, not the wand at the front.

I don't suppose you have a length and size on the screws in question?

Not at the moment, but I can check that tomorrow & post the info with pics.

There are three screws all .625in or 5/8in long.

For an 86 the screws are not black, they appear to have a zinc like coating.
Looks to be metric M4.
So the length would be 1.5cm or 15.9mm or approximately 0.625in. It's a coarse thread.
So look for a M4x0.50x15.9mm.
