That is for the hatch. Power latch, tag light, rear window defrost, ground.

Glad I asked!
I'll have to dig around under that side panel and find the other end.
Got an approximate on the ground to be landed?

Depends.

On all SVOs there's three wires that go to the hatch latch solenoid. One has a ground lug on it that bolts (screws) to the left side of the hatch. And power to the number plate bulbs.

If it's an 86 with the third brake light, there's another wire for that. Before 86 there is no third brake light and associated wiring.

If it has a rear defog circuit in the rear window, there's one HEAVY gauge wire and one short heavy gauge ground wire.

Some pics (in seemingly random order).

The ground is about 1 foot in front of the drivers side tail light, the rest should plug in close to the same place. Pull the wires down the quarter panel and it should be close.

Kendal,
I located the plugs and everything is hooked back up.
Great pics Mike!
Where can I get those clear license plate lens covers, mine are nowhere to be found.
Also the plastic that covers the hatch striker is shattered, not very good plastics back in 85?
Is there an aftermarket source for that also?

The lens for each of those lights can be found in the j/y on any Fox mustang. Alternatively, you can check FMR, NPD, Drake, or any of the other vendors that carry Fox mustang parts.

The bushing & stryker can be found at most parts stores in the help section. Just be sure to purchase the correct size striker.

Is there an aftermarket source for that also? I got them from LMR, iirc, along with the wrong screws. They tried three times to get me the correct screws (I provided pics of the original ones) and failed so I cleaned/painted/installed the original ones.

They also sell the latch stricker pin/bolt assy with the plastic sleeve already installed. You can also get the stricker pin at NPD and I suppose in the Help section of some parts stores. It is different than the doors, btw. Iirc I got mine from LMR, but that was about a decade ago - back when FOX parts was big business.

Once you get all the latch pieces in place, and a new weatherstrip seal installed, set the latch to the loosest-most position and the bumpers to the full up (loosest position) and test the close.

Iteratively (lather, rinse, repeat) open and adjust the latch tighter until it compresses the seal all around (place pieces of paper and pull them - like feeler blades. You want full contact all around to keep water and stuff out. When perfection is achieved, tighten the striker bolt (25 Ft-Lbs) and then adjust the side bumper thingies downwards to where you can just feel them touch. Keep it balanced left-to-right.

Lower tha hatch manually, then lightly press down on the center of the rear lower wing to lock it closed. More better than dropping it.

Re-adjust yearly as the seal compresses.

I bought the striker from the help section at Orielys and it is the wrong one.
But I will visit the local pickapart and get those lenses. Also I have a tower brace that came with the car I still need to install,I guess? I really am not sure if it is something I need to worry about but it looks like I'm running out of things to do.
But that's a good thing.
Thanks again guys!! I couldn't have gotten this far without your help.

I just installed a new hatch striker on my '86, fortunately I had a new Ford piece on the shelf. The Ford Part Number is E1FZ-61404A42 and is now discontinued by Ford.
