Are aux shafts same in all 2,3 engines as I have understood? Why I'm asking is that there is 70's MustangII with 2,3 N/A carb on our local junk yard. 2,3 parts really doesn't grow on trees here (Finland, Europe) and I planned to grab aux shaft for spare. Is it worth of doing? Is there anything else that would be useful in 2,3T

I'm not sure about the axles. The engine is the same with some differences. The head ports on the intake are round . They went to the D ported heads on the 83 up turbo 4. They have other changes too. The crankshaft & block would be worth having. I replaced my axles with some aftermarket strong ones that didn't cost much. I'd be concerned with used 70's axles. Rick

The Aux shaft from the Mustang II can be used in the later engines. It is different as it was machined with a lobe to operate the fuel pump. Get the aux retainer and distributor. The gear from the distributor can be used. The heads are different and have smaller valves. The oil pump(was redesign) and pan(4 quart) are different and I wouldn't bother with them. The block could be used but it would need to be machined for the turbo oil drain. Crank could be used. Don't remember on the rods. No on the pistons.

All factory 2.3L OHC cranks and rods are the same.

No they aren't. The early 2300 in 74-76 could be found with a D4 rod that did not have the drilled oiler in them. They were popular with the circle track crowd for awhile. I also seem to remember Ford had a recall on them in the Pinto.

Running production change perhaps. They still have a D4 part number.

Thanks for info. Maybe I just go and take aux shaft + distributor gear just in case for future. Don't think that pulling engine for rods and crank is necessary. I have one complete 2,3T engine for spares anyway.

But what is the place where you bought aftermarket aux shaft Under Pressure? Is there others than expensive Esslinger? Ford has discontinued aux shaft few years ago, right?

My Ford aux gave out about 15 years ago. At that time I bought the Esslinger aux & 2 bronze gears. They weren't as high priced as they are now. Years later the dist. gear went south. You might try Racer Walsh in Jacksonville, Fl

FYI: If someone needs one, I obtained several NOS aux shafts several years back just before they went obsolete from Ford. And they have the fuel pump eccentric.

Unfortunately no NOS matching dist gears.

The Esslinger is expensive but it is heavy duty and will go the distance. The aux shafts have always been a weak link.
