View Full Version : Clutch issue after cable replaced

I posted this in TF, thought I would ask here too.

Ok, I replaced the dog bone in my 2R SVO and now the pedal grabs way up at the top. If I give it too much throttle when driving it slips.
It has a single hook aluminum quadrant and firewall adjuster that were in the car when I bought it. Brand(s) unknown.
I disconnected the long cable to swap the dog bone and when I went to hook it back up I had to 'pry' the bell crank forward about 1/2" to 3/4" to get the pin back in.
It seems (and feels) like I preloaded the release bearing and clutch by doing this.
I changed the one in my 'vert years ago and after pulling the pedal up to reset the factory quadrant/pawl I don't remember having that much difficulty installing the pin.
I spent a while searching and reading on the interweb and didn't find much to help.
Any ideas???

The replacement dog bone cable is shorter than the previous one.

Loosen up the firewall adjuster some. Flavor to taste.

Thanks again Mike, good thing I have you and SVOCOP to bail me out! 8290
Does loosen = shorter on the adjuster?
It looks like it's screwed together as far as it will go. I've never messed with any of the aftermarket stuff so I have no idea.

So, is there supposed to be any preload on the arm? I seem to remember changing my first one on my GT Turbo (stock) on the side of the road with no issues. Even back then I was smart enough to have my TF 'crash kit' with me.

Of course after falling down the stairs and bouncing my head off the wall my memory sucks!
And no, it did NOT knock any sense into me, I still mess around with TFs and have actually added more to the collection since then...lol 8289

I believe it needs to be screwed out from the firewall to loosen the tension.

Thanks Mitch, they are a pita to get at so I fixed it the TF way...right or wrong it worked. ;)
