Has anyone had there turbo rebuilt and had problems with the rebuild? reason is I had my turbo rebuilt late last summer and had a problem with starting with it smoking and Then the first time out this season went for nice long drive all was going well when I heard some disturbing noises coming from the engine bay when it sounded like a beer cans rattling around up there my power was gone, I was on my way back home when this all started managed to limp to the near by service center started to smoking really bad when I called on my friend to save me. I pulled the turbo of the car and took it back to the rebuilder and saying that its my fault that it failed, I was over spooling the turbo that cooked the rear bearing and broken shaft,, he wants money to repair the turbo so much his warranty.

Did you replace the oil feed line & clean out the drain line as part of the swap?

Call Charlie at Evergreen Turbo for a real rebuild. He can add upgrades to your stock center section to increase reliability and he stands behind his work.

Before you put a new turbo on, completely remove, clean, and inspect the entire intake track to the turbo and the IC for debris. Metal chunks flying into a spin turbo is no good. Ask me how I know.

Charlie will take good care of you and the last time he charged around $600 as I recall. But that was a bunch of years back and if you need a new shaft / wheels it will cost more. Call him he's easy to deal with.

I will add that I kick myself for not listening to his offers to mess with the wheels and other dark majic he does. So when the time is right I have a 86 t3 water cooled unit I will send him for some special love.
