Came back from Qatar for some well deserved R&R and have totally and completely lost the keys to my SVO. The only set that I had...that was my first mistake.

So now I have a dilemma on my hands. How do I fix this the most inexpensive way (Read...CHEAPEST). So I am turning to you folks for some advice.

1.) I can call a locksmith and have him cut me a set of keys..probably about $200.00

2.) Can I pull the Ignition out of the car and take it to a locksmith? I can almost see that saving me a little coin.

3.) Do I replace all of the locks in the car? I not only need the ignition key but the locks as well.

Ugh....what a rotten dilemma I got myself into. Any help would be once again greatly appreciated!

Two different keys: Doors and ignition lock.

Extracting a door lokc isrelatively easy - the ignition lock [without a working key] is a wee bit more complex, for obvious reasons. Do you have a pick set? That is probably the best bet/losest cost now - getting the extracted cylinders to a locksmith for impressioning.

You could stop by my house and get a colllum with keys and just change it out. Then take your door lock to the locksmith. That should not cost much.

Stuff happens... I wouldn't say that qualifies as 'Moron of the Year'. Let's save that nomination for someone more worthy. :D

For the door lock, AAA can get you opened up pretty quick. Makes the annual fee worth while. Or you could drill out the rivet for the hatch lock cylinder clip. It's still not going to get you a key but you can take the cylinder to a lock smith.

For the ignition lock you can slot the column to get past the locking pin. Check out a recent post over at FEP. You would still need a key so those options are a locksmith or a new key/tumbler assembly ($40 the last time I bought one). You could drill out the lock cylinder if you are replacing it.

If you have the factory key code tag, it may save you some money at the locksmith. I know dealers used to make keys from it.

if you are feeling lucky, try all your old Ford keys.
