Dogbone be-gone?

Can a person replace the SVO "dogboned bellhousing" with a '79 2.3L bellhousing PN D9ZC 6394 W/O any function problems? My VERY problematical back would appreciate one less unplanned reason for which to get under my '86 SVO!

I don't think the bell housing is the same due to a 4 speed verses a 5 speed.

Short answer is yes. I've done just that on my 88 LX couple (has an 88TC drive train). It does bolt up, but it might require a different cable. I've gone with an aluminum quadrant with an adjustable cable & firewall adjustor.
The bell housing bolts up & matches up to the latter housing.

Thanks for the comeback. I already have replaced the firewall adjuster and the aluminum dual point quadrant, both by Steeda, and clutch cable: the combination works fine with all the rest of the oe equipment and the dogboned bellhousing.

I stopped by the Ford dealer sponsor for our local Mustang club tonight however, the information was too old for them to look up as their records stopped at 1980..... About all I got was there was a 5 year production run of 2.3L Mercurs(sp) that had the same dogboned bellhousing...the years I didn't get but I expect in the mid '80's. I'll be trying a local garage which does most of their work on Fords and see if their knowledge might cover the Ford dealerships lack of knowledge. I'll post what I find
out if it covers the cross usage of bellhousings.

Check with the circle track racers. I got the idea from that crowd. A friend of my dad's that has been racing for years.
