I went to put gas in my '84 this morning and could not get the gas door open, I don't know if the switch is bad or the solenoid is bad. it didn't give me any indication of going bad either. It worked fine before with never any trouble and then nothing. I had to pry the door open with my fingers.
Is there a fuse in the fuse panel or something somewhere else that could have gone bad?

There should be a manual release cable under the carpet by the spare tire.

I thought there was but I didn't look down by the spare tire, just under the carpet. Ill look again in the morning.

I looked again this morning and still didn't find the cable.
But I did find the problem, the dome light fuse was blown which apparently powers the fuel door solenoid also.

The manual release cable may be tucked behind the trim panel. Typically it is laying in the spare tire well as Dave said.

It is usually hanging in the middle along the rear wall & can be traced back to the filler door popper.
