My 86 came with cloth and needs new covers.
Would leather deminish the originality?
I have used TMI for VW interior and was not impressed.
If I go leather I'm leaning twards JAX.
Has TMI got the colors right? I'v seen some posts saying they don't.
If thats the case I might as well go leather.

I have used TMI on at least two or three times and have had no issues. I thought the quality was pretty nice.
The last time I saw the cloth upholstery though it was not quite correct. The leather was nice looking though I can't confirm the color match because I have cloth.

I have done the tmi leather and it is really close on the color but a little loose on the fit. I let the car sit in the sun and it seems to help on the fit. Never have done anything with the JAX. Never done anything on the cloth tmi,

TMI leather is pretty Damn close now. Regardless of which fabric you choose, be sure to add foam & reshape since the original foam has worn after 30 years.

My 86 is a leather car and front seats need new leather. Back seat is in good shape. I too have been debating whether to go TMI or Jax. From what I have read and seen, the TMI replacement leather is good quality. Have not really seen or heard much about the Jax covers.
One question, am I o.k. just ordering new front leather or is the color going to be far enough off that I should replace rear also?

I did my fronts alone and have never even given the rears a thought since. Unless you are reclining the front onto the back I doubt anyone will notice a difference.

Did you use the TMI or Jax? I am leaning more towards going with the TMI.

I'm still wondering if changing to leather will adversely effect the value of the car.
basically a one previous owner with original build sheet and records.

I would stick with what it came with IMHO. The value has to go up on our cars before it matters though. I wish I had cloth when it gets hot out. My covers were E&G classics. (Been a while) I believe they are out of production.

Let me know how the Jax works out if you go that route.

Picked up a pair of cloth seats now I have an extra drivers seat thats pretty decent so when I finally get up to 20 posts I'll list it in the for sale section.

I never do upholstery without changing the foam. After all these years and miles the foam is usually junk too. I know it costs more money but it is worth the extra.
Who is this Jax???? I have never even heard of the company before.

TMI has both. Make sure you tell them when you order. I have purchased both.
