Some time ago I bought an intercooler (SVO) to modify for a bypass valve arrangement, must have been some time in 2010 or so. I had the fitting welded on and then I let it sit until just recently. Now I'm trying to put it all back together but the rubber seal seems to have grown since I took the intercooler apart. Please check the picture and help me make sure that I've got the parts in the right places and in the right order for re-assembly. Any hints or tips are appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Chuck

Do you mean the rubber seal you have in the pic is now to big to fit between the guard and the body??If anything, I would have thought it would have shrunk. I would lay it in place on the body and tack it in place with weather strip adhesive and lay the guard on top of it.

It grows almost immediately after you take it off. I have done this a couple of times. In one case I was able to just use it as it was and just squeeze it in and bolt it down. On another It was squeeze some of it and silicone parts of it. The last time I ended up cutting it down some and then silicone it in real good. Scotchbrite, really good cleaning and letting it setup with a lot of time is important to getting a good seal.

Be careful with silicone sealer. make sure it's had at least 48 hours to cure before installing/starting the engine.
Yep, even the Oxygen sensor safe stuff.

Thanks guys, I'll try squeezing it back into place (like a wet noodle someplace warm).

Maybe try freezing it. If it were too small, warming it up would help stretch it so try the opposite.

Although freezing the rubber may make it brittle and susceptible to breaking into pieces if left in to long.
