On or about this past weekend (starting on Thursday) our hosting service moved svocop website and forum to a new, faster, more better hardware box. They started sometime Thursday eve (02/25/2016) and were completed with moving however many hundreds of hosted sites were on that old box to the new one on Sunday aftn (02/28/2016).
So far, so good.
I then stopped the backup scripts on the old box and conf'd/verified the scripts running on the new box, set my sftp backup collection scripts to d/load from the new box, and all was good in SVO Land (tm). I was running the backups & d/loading them from the new box and as that was working properly, I stopped the backup scripts/downloading from the old box. That was all done/verified last Sunday, 02/28/2016.
Late last PM when connecting to the site I rec'd a "Customer Account Suspended" page. After verifying that we were paid up, I contacted support and (in about two minutes!) they discovered that the IP (we pay for a fixed IP addy) had not been routed to the new box. We got that fixed in another 10 or so minutes and all, again, was well in SVO Land (tm). Or so it seemed.
Early this AM there was a new thread (which is now gone, btw) indicating that some recent posts were missing. I immediately knew the issue, I stopped the forum and attempted to ssh to the old box to run a backup, sftp d/load results and upload to the new box, & re-start the forum. Plan A. The old box wasn't allowing me to login via ssh. Grrr ...
Plan B. Contacted support and in another two or so minutes they offered to (1) copy the whole account (files and stuff) from the old server to the new one, or (2) re-open my account on the old box to allow me to ssh/sftp to the old box to move stuff myself. I picked door #1 as that would be MUCH faster than me copying and uploading across the interwebs & associated fibers, wires, airwaves,. satellites and phone lines. With the forum stopped, there would be no new posts lost and as soon as the copies were done, the forum would come alive again on the new box.
In any case all is well in SVO Land (tm). Again. YAAAY!
Unless you posted sometime between about 2100 hrs 03/08/2016 and 0700 Hrs MST 03/09/2016. That all be gone. And you shoulda been sleeping during that time anyways. Feel free to re-post any missing posts (except for posts about missing posts during the above mentioned time frame - as those are all back now).
As usual, please let me know if you see anything broken, missing, misspelled, or just plain wrong.
No, I can't fix Mitch. Sorry.
Shorter flavor:
ISP error, some posts lost, Mitch bad, Plan B worked, forum restored. Life is Good.
