How to clean valves?

Gents,


I'm going into the last phase of my port and polish head replacement operation. Getting ready to put it all back together and would like to clean the deposits off the valves first. What is the best way to accomplish this task?

1. Standing grinder with a wire brush wheel (and thick leather gloves and eye protection). Don't try to do this with a hand-held drill motor and attached wire wheel brush. Do just the chamber and port sides of the head, and maybe 3/4"inch of the stem.

More better:
2. Media blast cabinet. Probably need something hard like glass beads or more aggressive like alumina. Crushes shells probably won't take off much.

DO NOT brush/blast the rest of the stem where it enters the guide. If blasting, mask them off with several layers of tape and NEVER spray towards those areas.

3. Use chemicals like Piston cleaner. May take days. Then wire wheel the rest of the remaining crud, soak more in Piston Cleaner. Lather, rinse, repeat.
