What am I missing a spray can in a collet? Yep, that's it. Just making sure the spray (rattle) can contents are well shaken/stirred/mixed without using inconsistent human labours. Cause machinists.

I wonder what the ideal RPM is? Too fast and the ball will centrifuge to one end no mixing. Too slow and the ball doesn't mix the contents.

Maybe we can get a Phase 1 SBIR contract to research that? You cna hear the ball clacking around in the vid. Much slower than manual rattle-canning.

If we know the viscosity of the paint, diameter and mass of the ball, and the length of the can, we should be able to work out the best rpm...

A millennial would use a CNC and program the C axis to change direction (M3/M4).

The machinist was told to do it that way from a well educated engineer. I work for an engineer that likes to tell me how to do stuff that he doesn't know how to do.

I'm a degreed engineer who programs CNCs. I'm amazed at the kinds of people we hire who claim to be "machinists". Most of the folks in our engineering department are non-degree machinists that have been moved off the floor so they can do more fixture design, process planning, and machine programming.
