So there is an SVO for sale from Dennis Collins. He's been on Fast 'n Loud/ Gas Monkey Garage a number of times. I knew of him because of his Jeep parts business. Either way he's selling his Mustang collection that includes a 1985 SVO with 7 original miles. Going to be sold at Barrett Jackson. I don't know much about the car and the listing doesn't have a lot of pictures or information, but still cool.

Absolutely need to keep an eye on this one. It will most likely go higher than normal since it is at B/J.
Last year there were two fox bodies that had low mileage like this and IIRC they went for something like $70K! One was a '84 GT350. I don't remember what the second car was.

Yeah, that was a bad investment by the bidder IMO. For $68k you could own a few really nice foxbodies.

$64k for ANY SVO is insane, but especially for a plain-jane 1985.

If someone has the money and desire to buy that SVO for $64K, good for them. I'm certainly glad my financial choices aren't subjected to the judgement of the internet.

Further, this isn't a situation where an owner lists a car for an "insane" price and a person "with more money than brains" foolishly purchased it. There was no price listed and multiple people were competing to buy that car. More than one person in that room thought the car worth the money.

Despite the perception. the people at these auctions don't have the money by luck, chance or accident. They have the money to spend because, over the long run, they make good financial decisions. The vast majority are successful small business people.

Completely agree. I have often been stunned by the cash laid out for art pieces, antiques, golf clubs, jewelry, or whatever. But it's their money, and their choice for what they value. As the saying goes, it's "worth" what someone is willing to pay for it. Is there another person willing to drop $60k on an SVO? Maybe not, but at this point the buyer probably doesn't care. I'm happy for him. As for this particular SVO, odds are pretty good at that price it will be well cared for and preserved for many years.

Wow I can't believe a 89 LX convertible when for $71K and today I saw a 1970 Hurst Oldsmobile 442 loaded go for $40K. And the thing is that SVO won;t be driven much if any.

What really sets Barrett Jackson apart from the others is the sheer number of bidders. They get the highest price simply by putting the most buyers in one room and letting them fight it out. By comparison, the smaller auctions have fewer people in the room competing for the car, so the bids stay lower.

Having been to a few Russo Steele auctions, I can also state the quality of cars at Barrett Jackson is clearly higher than RS. RS comes across more gimmicky and more PT Barnum compared to BJ. Regardless, they're both great car shows for me. :like3:

I've also been to a Gooding auction and that's in a different league in cars, buyers and atmosphere.

I made the trip to Phoenix two years ago for the auctions. Barrett-Jackson has the best cars, and just sheer # of cars. It is as much of an event, than an Auction. The Russo Steelse auctions, I felt, had more cars that your average Joe could buy. Although the morning auctions at B/J sells a lot of cool cars under 20-30K.

From what I've seen on TV, there are good deals to be had if you're patient and look hard. The high profile cars go for a lot though. I still want to go sometime. I think it would be fun. Even better if I was able to actually buy something...

A true time capsule with 7 miles, not something I would really want, wouldn't want to drive it and on the other hand wouldn't want it to sit and deteriorate if I paid that much either.

Got my 1985 in the Avatar with 26,000 for 6K, I can drive it and have fun and it will always be a low mile car.

Let's hope over time they appreciate a little bit!

Awesome car! To see one that is Brand New is cool to say the least.
With that said, owning an SVO is nice but driving one is a lot better. I drive mine all the time but its far from brand new...LOL.
