Interior Color Match

I have tried the SEM 15303 for the interior plastic, it definitely has a green hue to it. I have heard the the PPG 33602 dye is the closest to original sheen and color. How does it compare to the SEM 39173? The SEM is easier to obtain in spray can and locally. Has anyone compared them? How do they stack up to each other?

I used an SEM rattle can and got a great match. Of course, I sprayed all interior panels using the same stuff.

I will get the can number to you over the weekend. Between Silverstone events, that is.

I got the SEM 39173 from your post Mike. But I have never seen anyone else use it and have not seen it myself.

Alonso will run as high as 6 before retiring using the new Honda spec 3 engine

I have used the SEM 39173 (Dark Smoke) with excellent results for the dash pad and other pieces, you would never know the difference between the painted and adjacent stock pieces IMO

I had seen that, but there was no discussion on the SEM 39173 for the interior. For the exterior the SEM39153 Bumper coat is spot on.

As good a place as any to put this.

Way back in 2005 when I was assembling the Red Baron I got up to cleaning and refinishing the interior panels. And, as expected some of them had scratches and/or gouge. Any roughing prior to painting just made it worse, but really minor issues would be covered by the color, and less obvious. Still there were a few places - such as the rear pieces inside the taillights and the inside rear deck cover trim with real scratches.

Fast forward a decade or so and I discovered a texture spray coating from SEM and decided to experiment with it. There are several "methods" to creating an even texture on smooth-like surfaces using sponge rollers, but I decided I'd try a different method.

Grabbing a space piece of 2.5" aluminum tubing (spare parts for charge cooler piping) I prepped it for paint and sprayed some of he texture onto it. IIRC instructions indicated that a heavier coat was deeper in texture. Allow to dry, second layer, dry, apply color, dry, inspect.

The original spoilers and molding were molded in a colored plastic and were not painted. Some of the original spoilers were textured and some were smooth. The 1984s were colored black and the later years were charcoal grey.
The spoilers on bi-wing delete cars are painted body color.


The recommended way to attach the side moldings is with 3M VHB ( Very High Bond ) backing / pressure sensitive tape. Seems to be the only thing that works.


On the interior some have tried the SEM 15303 graphite, however it has a green tint to it and is not an exact match.


The SEM 39143 Trim Black is similar to a flat black.
