Recently received an email to webmaster (btw - an infrequently monitored account) that I'm gonna comment on, create a thread for and show to the masses:

My fuel pump kicks on with the key but does not continue to run. It pumps a quarter cup of fuel then quits. I need some help. Would you suspect the pump ( brand new Walbro) or ignition key or something else . I'm desperate.

If the pump(s) come on with initial key-on, the pump(s) are working. If the ignition switch in not in Crank Mode, or the engine running, then the pump(s) will shut off 2 seconds after initial key-on.

Is the engine running when the pump(s) stop? Do the pump(s) run when cranking the engine? You can easily test this by disconnecting the small push-on wire on the starter solenoid then put hte ignition into Crank Mode (NOTE: engine will not turn over).

When the ignition switch signals the EEC that Crank Mode is engaged, the EEC should keep fuel pump(s) on. Also if the TFI signals >300RPM (or is it 350?) , the EEC should keep pump(s) running. I would look at ignition switch, and TFI and/or wiring to/from EEC. Verify the TFI is sending an RPM signal to the EEC.
