Im pretty sure I know the answer but I'll ask anyhow.
Will the repro hood insulation for a regular fox body hood fit the svo hood other than the intercooler hole? Either one, the cheaper ones, or the more expensive type that are molded.

Yes. With a wee bit of trimming.

I’ve seen it both ways. Some were fine, others not even close. With quality and form factor all over the board you’ll just have to check around. Wish I could tell you which was the best but it keeps changing.

I bought this cheap insulator ($40) from Late Model Restoration after my OE insulator got soaked with oil from a leaking VC gasket and subsequent spraying cam gear. It's a bit thinner than the OE piece, but I think it actually fits better and looks cleaner than the original. No trimming required, included new push-pins. The only downside was it came packaged very tightly folded up (but then how else could you practically ship it). Just a couple hours in the sun with some weights and all the creases were gone.

I saw the one for SVOs on LMR site but it looks flat and unmolded like the more expensive ones for a normal fox body. I took my old one off years ago due to falling apart mostly so I don't remember what it looked like exactly. Do the repros still get rubbed by the throttle and the alternator?

It does look somewhat flatter than the OE, but once the push-ins are installed it pulls up fairly tight. If it's the OE look you're after, this is not the insulator you're looking for.

And yes, even though it's thinner than the original - it still rubs. I don't see how to avoid that with any insulator, there's just not enough clearance.

Ok. Thanks. I'll get the cheap one then. No point in getting a more expensive one to get ripped up.

I bought one of the cheap ones. They are pretty flimsy. I'd really like to have one of the original ones, but they go for big $.

The last NOS pad I saw for sale was a couple years ago and it was $500! That's way to much $ for a car I drive. If it was MCA trailered class show car then maybe.

Laredo, do you maybe have picture of installed insulator? I've been thinking about buying, but I'm little suspicious how it looks.

Yes, I don't recall if it's on my phone or digital camera but I'll look it up.

Here you go. If you look closely you can see the rub contact.

That doesn't look near as bad as I thought it would. Actually I think it looks pretty decent.
