I'll be dragging the SVO, Lisa, & the girls to the show in June. Let me know if anyone else is interested in going. I haven't booked accommodations yet. The pre-registration is stil going on. I've emailed for additional info since the site does not provide much detail on the track events, cost, & registration. I'll update this thread as I find out more info.

They opened the registration for the track events last Wednesday. I'm buried in an upgrade at work so I have had no time to do much. I will be working on this next week when I get caught up.

Tony has a lake?
Meotchh
02-23-2020, 01:00 PM
Tony & Cindy's lake house is at least an hour away. I am escaping from work for 3 weeks. It looks like it will be Sarah & I driving down. Lisa & Gabby will be flying in so Gabby doesn't miss the last couple days of school. Will there be any chance of the Red Baron making it out with it's new & improved owner? Maybe getting it out on the track?

Do folks on foot - not bringing or entering a car in any events - still need to register and pay fees to attend the assorted events?

I do not see anything on the site that implies they are charging for gawkers at any of the events. You might want to email john@midamericafordmeet.com to ask that question.

Are y'all thinking of doing the Marriott where most of the events seem to be at, or I can start looking for rental homes...?
Meotchh
02-25-2020, 11:40 AM
See what you can come up with on homes. As long as the Marriott deal allows you to cancel your reservation, you can book that as a backup plan. I haven't had any time to look up options in the area.

I have been there and if this is as big as it looks the hotel could run out of trailer parking pretty quick. Also the housing we found else where was always a better deal than a room at the inn. I am guessing people are staying till Monday?
Meotchh
02-26-2020, 06:50 PM
My plan is to leave home on the 13th & arrive to Tulsa on either the 16th or the 17th. I will be making stops to visit friends & places of interest for the minion. We are going to hit the road on Monday the 22nd but we haven't planned out the return route. We're making a road trip vacation out of it.

Just talked to the wife I need to find a dogsitter for 1 night. So most probably can go. Is it road racing, drag racing or both? I would probably drive down with Doug and need to be home by dinnertime on Monday.

Awesome! They have drag racing & road racing. I can't speak for everyone else, but I'm going to register for the road racing.

You should qualify that it's open track day not technicality road racing. That said I will be on track too!! See how it goes maybe for the $35 I'll drag race too! And I should qualify that too and say make a run and see what happens, LOL. Did you see anything about helmet restrictions?

I saw nothing regarding helmet restrictions. That would be a good question to send to John Kane:

Due to lack of chatter I am guessing we are considering this virus ridden?
MikeFleming
04-04-2020, 08:16 PM
That would be my conclusion also. I expect to see most large public meetings "on-hold" for at least another year.
In addition to the human life lost, LOTS of businesses will not survive this virus. IMHO.

Nothing has changed on this yet. Plans are still in place, but I would not book anything unless you are sure you can receive a refund if the event is closed. With that being said, the organizer did have a no refunds policy on the site. I am not sure if they are considering that a blanket no refund, or if there is a pandemic exception.

I'm not the show promoter. I don't think they want to be that group that denies a refund for something like that. There is also no need to pre-register when they do registration on site. You could save a few bucks, but is the risk worth it?

We might have a better idea in mid-May. Folks can always make hotel reservations with the optional cancel flag set. In case.
Were I to hazard a guess or set odds, I'd say it's 85% gonna be canceled. As they say: "The race is not always to the swift nor the battle to the strong. But that sure is the way to place your bet."

As of today from the Mid-America Shelby webiste:
"At this time, Mid America is still planned as scheduled. Like everyone else we are continuing to monitor mandated updates & guidelines and will provide update if anything changes."
The huge Back-to-the-50's car show here in Twin Cities that same weekend has already been cancelled. Still could go either way I think...

Yeah, we are still planning on going even though we have not collectively settled on accommodations. Everything else for the summer has canceled, so it would not surprise me if that happens with this show.

Meotchh

Still the four of us, Doug, Pat if I pick him up, Bob Fleming?
I will be making some calls this week & will share the info I find out on accommodations. I also want to make a call to the show organizer. We need a definite answer that the show is still on. I will still hold off on paying for show registration until we get to Tulsa, providing it does not get canceled.

Well I can't give any pics but we had fun. Thursday at Hallett my cars cooling fan took a dump and the car overheated after the first session ending my day. Rode with Doug for the rest of the day untill he ran out of E85. Amazing what brake pads and slicks will do for stopping power! Mitch said his tires were slippery and was a back marker most of the day. We cruised Tulsa which was fun. The cops had the route blocked off for us and it was a blast. Saturday night we went to the drags and Doug and I got a bunch of qualifying runs in. My best was 14.37 at 101 mph. Doug had an oil leak and couldn't be in the eliminations. I got knocked off in the first round by a 2016 Ecoboost mustang. We dialed the same time and I spun the cold tires, his automatic ran consistent enough to get him to second in the brackets. Sunday was the show and we had 8 SVO's in attendance. 5 club cars and 3 others. One GT40 that took 3rd at LeMan in 66. He did a lap around the show lot with it, sounded sweet.
