Ford changed the 2 piece rear main engine seal to a one piece. Can you replace a 2 piece seal with the one piece? Has anybody replaced the seal with the engine in the car? Are the flywheel bolts M10x1x28.6?

The original engine in my NOv 1983 MY 84 came with a one piece rear main seal. So unless yout SVO is much earlier, I suspect it already has a one piece rear main seal.
It can be changed after the gearbox and flywheel are out of the way - use a couple sheet metal screws into the flange 180 degrees apart and lever it out. Clean and dry the area and tap in a new one - mount it flush with the block/rear main cap surface.
Yes, the flywheel bolts are 10x1.0mm Not sure on the length but 25mm sounds about right. ARP makes a set of six with 12-point heads.

Thanks Mike from what I've been reading I think mine is a piece. I put about 30 miles on the car yesterday. Now that it is running better than it ever has, my seal might not bee bad. It runs so good, starts and idles smooth no more hi-cups at idle.

So, uhhh, don't mess with it??
A smooth running SVO is a pleasure indeed. Definitely enjoy it!
