My 84 GT turbo just died on me after exiting the freeway and stopped at a light. First thought was low fuel. Nope. It will fire for 3-4 seconds but will not stay running.

Replaced the intank pump, no change.
Replaced the fuel filter. No change. Lots of crap on the inlet side. Still factory filter.
Checked the codes, nothing.
Jiggled the ignition switch, nothing
Checked fuel pressure at fire wall. Gauge does not seem to fit right and read.
High pressure pump is 2 years old as well as the timing belt.
Have a good stream of fuel from the in tank pump.
Tank is spotless inside.

What am I missing? Car only has 62,000 miles.
I need to check fuel flow at the rail.

thanks for any suggestion.

Did you check that the distributor gear isn't stripped? Remove the cap and see if the rotor spins.
Are you seeing spark when cranking? Maybe the coil died?

I did not check the distributor yet. That is a good one and will verify the timing belt. It does have spark. It will fire and run for 3-4 seconds. I tried cycling the fuel pump 10 times thinking it might charge the line and run longer. No change.

As expected, it was a fuel problem. I found my spare fuel pump and installed. Started right up. The Bosch pump failed after 6 years/4000 miles. The first Bosch pump lasted 34 years. I put a Delphi pump in the tank.

My test pressure gauge does not read.

Correction. It was a Carter pump that failed after 4000 miles. Replace with a Bosch now.
