The 6th annual Sturgis Mustang Rally is coming up in late August. I have promised the show promoter that the SVOCOP will bring him at least 10 SVOs. They normally get 0 SVOs at the show. The promoter, not familiar with SVOs, wants to know how many classes we want since they do not normally have an SVO class. He will be working with us to help promote the car as well as the club. I'll post more details as we formulate the plans.

The week long event includes:
Car show
Autocross
Poker Run
Drag Racing
Auctions
Burnout competition (don't think we'll be competing...)

Here is a list of SVOCOP members currently planning attending:
Mitch & Lisa Harris (1SVO )
Chris Chalk (1SVO)
Dave & Stacey Schmitt (1SVO)
Scott & Lois Robinson (1SVO)
Doug Marthaler (1SVO)
Pat Pearson (1 Rental SVO)
Tony & Cindy Wright (1 SVO)
Mark Hass (1 White & Yellow SVO)
Flat Bob (He'll be sleeping on the floor, please don't walk all over him)

Accomodations are tough out there. We are renting an excutive house for the week. The options will sleep as few as 6 or as many as 18. I will send out updates on our accomodations to all that are attending & interested in the deal.

To find out more about the show check out the website:
http://www.sturgismustangrally.com/

Please thank Dan Jacobsen of Jacobsen Ford for accomodating us misfits & adding an SVO class for us!

I will send out an update on the SVO class soon.

I would think one SVO class initially. Until there are enough cars to justify separate 84, 85, 85.5 & 86 classes.

We could use the infamous Fuel Rail Trophy as the prize to the First Annual SVO Show Winner. To be returned the next year.

Meotchh

Yeah I don't plan on discussing multiple classes this go around, but it is an option he has offered.

I won't be in the hunt for any trophy, we'll probably be bringing the 2R, the stock autocross machine...SVOStacey plans to drive it a few times before Sturgis, then is looking to beat Mitch in the autocross.

Mitch won't autocross his own car. He has people to do that for him (Plausible deniability and all that). Lisa is his driver of preference. This could be fun to watch. Can you cay "Cat fight"?

Chalky

I'll be there for sure! I think ultimately, if your going for multiple classes, it'd be best to switch up between stock and modified.

UPDATE:

I spoke with the show promoter yesterday. He will supply me with artwork to print up club shirts with the SMR artwork on it. I will work on getting up a few design options. After I have a few options I'll set up a poll to narrow down to one. Any interest in shirts for the participants please check back for the poll.

I am also working on accomodations. I will have something booked by the end of the week. If you are interested in the accomodation deal it will be a rental house that sleeps between 10-16 people. Right now I have 8 people that have committed. If more people are interested let me know.

If you are sending in your registration please just indicate SVO for your vehicle. They will have one class specifically for SVOs. The promoter has little knowledge on Fox body cars & is looking forward to learning. Chalky is still on board to participate in the local radio show to discuss the SVO & the club. He'll be signing autographs throughout the weekend for a small fee...

I'll buy a shirt, but can't be counted on for attending.

Take Flat Bob, he'll do better at the Xcross just due to weight savings.

Patrick

If I had a choice between Flat Bob and Flat Brooke, I think that Bob would lose big time.

Pat,
I haven't gotten my travel dates sorted out yet. We could meet anywhere after Omaha (We'll be traveling on Interstate 29 from there, prior to that would be a backtrack for you guys). Still sorting out the dates...IIRC, I wasn't looking to leave quite that early...but things do change.

I've been hiding in a massive mess at work that seems to have no end. I'll spare eveyone the details until the BBQ next weekend, after I've had a chance to put a dent in the beer cooler...

Right now we are planning on leaving on Saturday August 25. We are going to make a vacation out of the drive. So far it is Scott, Lois, Lisa & Me. Scott is working on some plans for places to visit along the way. We can discuss details at the BBQ & or Roundup next weekend.

So the autocross at the SMR is held in a parking lot with some imovable obsticals (power poles & buildings). But the coarse is pretty tight which is perfect for an SVO. The event is an elimination event & the top 16 are in the running for the cash prizes. So we need to put a ringer in the event. We need Stacey Schmitt to show them how an autocross is run. Dave I don't want to hear how you are so much faster cause we all know that ain't true. Although those supercharged V-8's may be more insulted by an SVO driven by a barefoot Kentuckian like Dave.

http://www.sturgismustangrally.com/autocross.html

DaveS
07-23-2012, 03:38 PM
Mitch just taught us how to talk smack if you don't participate in the event!

Seriously, Stacey and I both plan to drive the autocross. I encourage others to drive it as well The more SVOs we get to run the autocross course, the better chance we have to make a good showing.

After looking at a few of the videos (link above) and seeing how nice the cars look, I guess I'm going to need to wash the 2R this year!

Patrick

There will be a limited run of SVOCOP Sturgis T-shirts printed up. I will post the details after I have the artist clean up the logos. The shirt color will be a Royal Blue which is pretty close to Ford Blue.

The folks going to the event will have first dibs on the shirts, any additional shirts will be sold on the site.

ANd I will have limited trailer space to bring any items friends want for their car or projects ! I will make an effort to offer BIG items delivered to the event that many don't get a chance at buying.

NOS hoods, fenders, wheels
or heavy motor parts (can bring o ringed blocks and parts or assemblies)

If you want anything let me know NOW .

Dave, can Stacey drive the autocross barefoot if that's what it takes to get Mitch to shut up? No if it's an SCCA sanctioned event.

SCCA requires drives to have full-foot, closed toe shoes:

4.3.4 Footwear
Shoes covering the entire foot shall be worn.

She can take her shoes off immediately AFTER the run though. But that's not a good summertime sport around here.

Passengers, however, are definitely free to have sandles. I'm not sure about barefoot.

I think that we all are entering the show.
Some are doing the cruise (I'll see if I can find a car to ride along in on that one for the extra $30)
Sevaral are entering the autocross.

They have an online registration now at the website, so you can give your name and CC info, then just fill out the forms at Registration. It looks like late additions to entries are not a problem.

I am going to wait until I can talk to someone (monday?) to see if there is an Ala Cart menu for events !

It looks like the only way to Autocross is to use the Race choice. Not trying to save money - but I would like to know if I can get rid of the events not going to ! (If they are ticketed with my name then I"m sure you can't)

We entered for the show & poker run. Just got the AC fixed & charged today so we can ride in comfort during the poker run.

Contact Dan Jacobsen at Jacobsen Ford. He should be able to answer that question for you. His contact info is listed on teh registration form. I have had good luck reaching him through email & over the phone.

I emailed the "race" contact, and he told me that if Stacey and I both want to autocross, we both have to sign up for the race package, even if we only have one car. Has anybody found out if we can order events "a la carte"?

I guess we'll both sign up for the race package, unless we can find somebody who doesn't want to "race" and can pay the difference and use their autocross spot.

BTW, shirts will eventually be listed in the for sale section for those not going to SMR. Proceeds will go towards the cost of the shirts & the remainder to the club. They are a one time limited run so get em while you can!

Doug...245/45/16, extremely close to stock wheel size and offset, and they don't rub...but I only run them on the autocross course so I typically don't hit huge "bottom your car out" bumps, just cones.

Bob, yeah, taking it seriously. I had planned to bring my 17X8's with the RS-2's fitted but after playing Tetris for three hours and then realizing I could only just fit my luggage (with the interior stripped mind you!!) They weren't bought specifically for Sturgis, we run A6s at our local SCCA events; it just happened that we needed to replace them with about 3 more points events this year...just decided to get a new set of A6s before Sturgis so we could help another SVO'er. We've got our hands full, the new generation Mustangs are pretty quick on the autocross course...and the new Boss is even better!

Oh I know, I drove on them to the reunion in '08 so it'll give you some idea of how much tread is left!!!! Suffice to say if I got stuck in a snow storm like then i'd be "proper phuqed!!!!"

Anyways, after work in Bellevue today and quick stop at the Pony Shoppe in Snohomish, (had to drop of the M-1 and a seat), I hit the road via the Monroe Starbucks and hit the scenic route via Hwy. 2. Very nice scenery and got to run the Steven's Pass which I've never done before. Stopped in Wenatchee for a burger and then headed for I-90. Arrived in Spokane Valley, WA about 11pm.

Hitting the road early tomorrow and heading for Billings, MT.

If you were not there, you missed a kick ass week. Or was it an ass kicking week?

We will return next year & we hope to once again show the Shelby owners what a 30yo 4cyl can do.

For anyone interested, I will be listing limited production SMR SVOCOP shirts in the forsale section when we get home. Price will be $17.50 + shipping. We only have L & XL remaining.

Look for pics from the travels, rental house & events later this week.

As for Lois & Scott winning, it was well deserved with all the work that has been put into that car to get it to where it is today. Now I need to convince Lois to take over cleaning duties on my car...;)

Customer: "How much do you want for that car on the trailer?"
Me: "$12,500.00"
Customer: "That's ALL?"
Customer: "I just want the engine to drop it in my LX Thunderbird"
Scott: "Do you know what engine is in there?"
Customer: "Its a 5.0!"
Scott: "No it's a 2.3 Turbo which was faster than the 5.0!"
Customer: "Well thats fine, I'll take that"
Customer: "Why's that car on the trailer?"
Me: (Thinking to myself) "Because it lost the other 4 cyclinders  ..."
