Wondering if anyone can turn these for casting numbers.
Main bearings (not center)
D42E-6333-EB (both top and bottom)
I cannot turn the suffix EB in my parts books. E alone is a .020 U/S upper and lower
The shells also have the following info:
D.A.B. d PC
1-85
0.50 U.S.
FORD
So it would appear this is a .050 undersize
My Ford parts book does not list a .050 undersize

Time to buy a crank kit? it will come already polished (hopefully) and with nre rod and main bearings.
Be sure to check the crank end play when test fitting everything. And Plastigage the bearings for a sanity check also. If anything looks wrong, get the mics out.

0.50 if expressed in metric terms would be .020", wouldn't it? Time to break out the micrometers.

Yeah, but is that .50 mm U/S or 50 thou inches?
If it's millimeters, it's only like 20 thou inches which isn't bad at all.
Anyone know how Ford designated these?
In the book its as follows and it's in inches.
If I could figure out the cross ref from the casting number to the Ford part number I could figure it out.
Mike, If I were to buy a crank kit, should I just buy any old one like those from Rock Auto?
PAT, YOU BEAT ME TO IT!!!!!

It's a Metric engine. All bearing specs are in mm. Besides 0.5" underside would be kinda noticeable, no? The books are generally written so most all [uneducated] American can read them. Put some mm, km or liters in there and this country falls apart.
Pistons and bearings are marked as follows:
0 - stock size
0.25mm =~v0.010"
0.50mm =~ 0.020"
0.75mm =~0.030"
...
Mike, If I were to buy a crank kit, should I just buy any old one like those from Rock Auto? All 2.3L OHC cranks are the same form 1974 until the small journal & 2.5L came about. Yes, I'd start with a RA kit and inspect it when it arrives. or order three kits and return two (assuming one is good).

Yeah the crank OD would be toothpick size.

So I started doing some basic arithmetic and here's what I found.
Replacement Sealed Power Main Bearings $66.99
Replacement Clevite Rod Bearings $15.96
Crank Micropolish & clean up chamfers (shop time) $95.00
Total cost of new bearings and existing .020 crank $177.95
Cost of rebuilt crank with Sealed Power Main and Rod Bearings, Shipped $184.55 (includes a $20 core charge)
TAKING FLEMING'S ADVICE.....Priceless
It's like I got the crank for $6.60
If I were to ship the crank back as a core, I'd be in the black (not gonna happen)
Mike, as usual...thanks again.
