One piece oil pan gasket

What is everyone using for oil pan gaskets? This is a most confusing subject as some state the one piece design works fine while others say it leaks. I feel like the cork one is a trip back 20 years. Please give me some recommendations if you please?

I put one in my motor and just filled the recessed end caps with silicon. Works fine.

Depends on your block: Do your front cover and rear main cap humps have grooves in them - or are they smooth all the way across?

The hump style uses the 4-piece gasket while the smooth style uses the one-piece. Some of the holes in the one-piece gasket are different so you will need to be creative.

A properly installed 4-piece (with cork) gasket will live, leak-free, for decades.

Mike the small journal motor I am also building from one of my NOS blocks and cranks has the smooth caps and timing cover. The 86' Bolo motor has the grooves.

Chalky, how did you make the one-piece rubber gasket work with the grooved sealing surfaces?

I filled the groove with high temp silicon and made sure the surface was smooth and the gasket fitted well. I may have pics somewhere, lemme check.
