I've probably been told enough that it's a bad idea, BUT does anyone know the best ways to slow/prevent rusting for winter driving? My SVO will be a daily driver over the winter and will see about 500-800 miles this winter and being in Wisconsin means there's salt! I have a parking structure available for me to park it when I'm at school but should I bring a cover or does anyone have any ideas on how often to do an under body wash?

Mine is DD in the winter also. A couple of ideas come to mind. An old hot rodders trick: Spray some oil on the underside of the car. Nothing crazy, a light film will suffice. It should not drip. You might could use one of those garden sprayers from your local home improvement warehouse. Messy but effective. You may need to reapply at some point depending upon how many washes you perform. What I did: Wire brush all the loose scale off any rusty spots and thoroughly clean anywhere you intend to paint. Pick up a quart of Chassis Saver (POR-15 same, same between $40 and $50) a box of latex gloves, a face shield and a long sleeve shirt. Brush on two coats of the product and you're done. It's impervious to everything except the sun, fat chicks and Pat's breath on Saturday night. Running it through an undercarriage wash a few times a month will wash off all the nastiness and keep the effects of the salt at bay. Also, don't know if it's in the budget or not but a set of dedicated snow tires will make your commute infinitely more enjoyable. Just sayin.....

Enjoy the jokes lol but this also was a bunch of help! We redid the gas tank, so we used por-15 on the surrounding area, and that stuff is NASTY! It works like a charm but I got it on my hands and it stayed for 2 weeks :(. It took quite a while to apply just a little but though too and my SVO seems to be VERY low. My GT is a LOT higher and I can lay under it no prob but no the SVO. As for the tires, I have a few hundred saved up for an all around set of tires, just a pain in the butt to find one that's not full price (I'm being cheap). This will be something I do later in the year if I choose to use Por-15 but I know for sure it'll last decades basically!

I doubt wallyworld has this. I get mine from a local body shop supply store. Eastwood sells it as well as *most* of the aftermarket suppliers. NPD, LRS, Mustangs Unlimited, etc.....

LOL! was talking about the repellent as well and was wondering what his auto store was!...must have a really special Napa or something lol! Well I will do what I can to the car, seeing as it's not seeing too many miles I'm not worried as much :)
