If you're not going to use the stock one, can you put it into the location of the stock one? It is in the intake manifold on the underside. Single wire going into it.
Or 1% that it is for the light on the automatic transmission shifter. :)
99% sure it is the connection from the seat belt so if you don't latch it you get the buzzer.

If the latch cable is trashed, take out the battery and check the frame rail under it. (bend back the plastic if necessary to see the bottom.) Mine in my RS...

I had a thought last night. My original wiring harness was in pretty bad shape and I repaired quite a few things, including the TFI harness, replacing it with a newer one that has a 'pill' style...

I used the stock gear to setup the Esslinger one. There is a mark on the Esslinger gear that is what I used to check the timing.
