    What would be correct sound system for 1984?

    What would be the correct factory radio for the 84 cars? I had an 85 Capri RS and as I recall it was am/fm premium sound so would this be correct for the 84 SVO also Anyone know of a source?

    Thanks

    Most came with am/fm cassette. There were actually two different versions of them. Door sitcker with (8) would be those. The other radio would be a amfm without cssette with (4) on the door sticker. All are the big knob type. The 85-86 was different. It had a digital readout. Best I can tell from the Ford info I have there were 278 1984 svo's that did not come with a cassette.

    Fox Chassis who is a member here would most likely know that. I dont know the code on the build sheet. He will probably chime in shortly.

    Would it be the same as what was available in the '84 GT Turbos? I could take a pic of what is in mine. One has the AM/FM cassette and the other has the premium sound AM/FM cassette with the amp and switch under the dash.

    86 SVOs = 2A - Drag & 2R - Driver & 1C - Rusty
    84 GT Turbos = 'verts & hatch

    Kendal can correct the SVO radio options if I'm wrong.

    Four radio options in '84...

    AM radio (code 2 on door tag).....................standard in L, LX, GT, Turbo GT
    AM/FM stereo (code 4).............................standard in SVO before Comp Prep (CP) available, optional in L, LX, GT, Turbo GT
    AM/FM stereo w/ cassette (code 8).................standard in non-CP SVO after CP available, optional in L, LX, GT, Turbo GT
    radio delete (code Y).............................standard in CP SVO, optional in L, LX, GT, Turbo GT

    And the "Premium Sound System" was standard in the non-CP SVO and optional in anything else that has a stereo radio.

    Build sheet radio codes...

    A = AM
    D = radio credit (delete)
    R = AM/FM stereo w/ cassette
    S = AM/FM stereo

    Build sheet speaker codes...

    [blank] = two front speakers only (standard with AM radio and radio credit)
    4 = 4 speakers
    Z = 4 speakers (Premium Sound)

    Thank for all the inputs. I will check the tag info and start looking for whatever radio it calls out. Just another item on my restoration list!

    I am curious if your SVO is pre- or post-CP. And if it's pre-CP if it's a slapper bar or Quadra Shock car.

    Do you have pics of the door tag and buck tag that you can post? Thanks.

    Hmmm...

    Should we start a door and buck tag section here? Pics to prove the ID of the car and text for the database?

    I will try & get pictures of the door tag info. Buc tag is there but not easy to see enough to read.

    I know its an early car, last digits on vin indicate it was # 565 off the line. Has slapper bars

    I think a section on car ID and build number would be great. I have my 93 Cobra listed on 93cobra.com as they are trying to track all 93's

    100565 is not the production sequence. That is only the order in which VINs are assigned. 100565 was 565th Mustang assigned a VIN for 1984 and the 110th SVO assigned a VIN for 1984.

    I have a whole bunch of SVO door tags and buck tags. Looking at all of the buck tags is how I figured out how to ID a BWD and a BWD CP from the codes on the tag...

    SVO Buck Tag codes:
    04 = BWD & CP SVO
    11 = BWD SVO
    12 = 'regular' SVO

    I could make a VIN decoder for the site too. Here are two that I've done so far...

    www.foxchassis.com/FEP (1979-86 Capri and Mustang for FourEyedPride.com)
    www.foxchassis.com/SSP (1982-1993 5.0L coupe for SSPMustang.net)

    That right there proves the point that they're not build in consecutive order......100550 was the 109th SVO assigned a VIN (one before 100565) but the 149th off the line.

    Getting back to the original question thanks for the radio info, I just pulled the dash and as expected the front speakers are shot. These measure 3 &1/2 but looks like they were aftermarkets. (no Ford p/n or info) anybody have the correct ford part numbers for these as well as the rears?

    Thanks

    Here is a picture of my AM/FM radio in my '84 Svo. Code 4 on the door tag.
