Some Ancient Track Day Pics (WSIR)

I tagged along with a group of folks taking two McLaren Can-Am cars to Willow Springs for a shakedown run. One of an M8F and the other is an M20 (one of only three). The M20 had just completed a $150K restoration and needed a shakedown run. Scanned 30 year old photographs.

But first, another that toy that was also there for some track time that was not a part of our group.

I have the fuel cell out of your car !! Got a call the day they were sending them to be crushed. Let me know if you want it for sentimental reasons, will spot by. (Really just want to see if the alum bumpers are on the side of your house still !) LOL

The fuel cells weren't installed until early 1992, after I left there. The reason the fuel cell installations were done on all the school cars was that one of my students cars caught on fire while on-track. Fortunately I was right behind him in the SHO.

It kinda turned out to be a PITA as the largest cell they could fit was 10 gallons so cars had to be refueled 3+ times a day except for the paddock exercise days.
