Hi
Seems fitting to let you in on the recent project for THESVOTRUST. Seems we all help each other - Kendal Coker found this car a couple of years ago. HE contacted me - as the owner of the MacTools Race Car and said "you should buy this". (At the time I said - No, why and "I sold a 85.5 Comp Prep because I didn't want to use my NOS parts to restore it" (and that was a 85.5 Comp Prep). Ten minutes I owned it. (sixth car sight unseen - but not the worst)
Brought to MI in 2011 the car needed valve seals, brake work and to be repainted.
After documenting the spray patterns , as well as the original stickers (slightly different than those Andy reproduced for the 1984 car) I started disassembly in the winter of 2012.
Rear hatch had contacted the roof
Tim my friend of TPC Refinishing did great metal work to make right and fit TONY W's red hatch
Before and after doors
We used NOS front end to save some time on fender and hood work! (sold the hood in Carlisle for 37.00)
Bought a header for Bill C (THX) in Carlisle
Car has been blocked and we will start paint tomorrow 10-24-2013.
Paint has been bought, we are painting the same way Bobby Fehan (Mac Tools Driver) painted these two cars in the 1983 and 1984. (note spray patterns)
I have invited Bobby to come and paint the red and yellow trim (next spring) but getting him here isn't easy ! (think I have to go through his wife, as she can rangle him into the trip)
This is an exciting project for me. I swore I was finished restoring cars after the 9 year SCJ adventure. But true to my SVO devotion - I knew I could do this car faster and without the need of research and date coded parts hunting.
Mostly I am excited as I intend to register and drive the car. It is an important piece of SVO history and I'm thankful BOTH cars are together.
Mark
P.S. Will continue to update this thread with progress photos. Really don't have a time frame for finishing the car - right now we want to get color on it before winter.
