I believe the Roush engine is a reverse flow configuration. I wish I could find all my pictures.
Enough of that, it was giving me a headache.

Those engines are awfully clean for being so mangled. Someone forget to put in oil before the dyno run?

That's from one of the pro classes in drag racing. There is oil in the engine it's just brand new. Plus, that engine got so hot that when it grenaded, the oil didn't stick to the block it just ran off much like oil on a hot skillet.

Those head studs look reusable. Maybe.

What were the specs/ parts list for Fitz' engine???

The engine had a very well thought out PCV system. I'll look to see if I can dig those pics up.
Fitz's engine was phenomenal. Too bad that he had the issues that he did, that caused him to go a different direction.
Enough of that, it was giving me a headache.
Looks like ALL of the internal surfaces were machined/polished. Fewer places for cracks to start from, I suppose.

That would be the wrong order. ANY machining, sanding, polishing, etc. introduces stresses while the peening removes them (technically it induces them everywhere evenly - so there are not uneven surface stresses remaining after machining).Looks like the main caps were shot peened and then polished.

Yes the polishing is to remove any stress risers and to promote oil drainback.
Fitz had some problems with getting acceptable parts (remember this is a guy that built American LeMon and Indy car engines for a living), was tired of pioneering, and the resulting costs to do so. He also had some back issues at the time and knew that he couldn't spend the time and effort tinkering with the car to make it work. The complexity of the systems he created were fantastic, but there was a lot of tuning issues to resolve. His last two outings (if I recall, sometimes my memory isn't as good as I'd like it to be) resulted in blown engines.
He was instrumental in providing solutions for a number of issues I was having, too bad he swapped to a V8. But, honestly, I can understand why.
Enough of that, it was giving me a headache.
