***URGENT*** Early 84 Rack and Pinion

Sorry to beat this dead horse again enthusiasts but here is my dilemma:

I dropped off my car last Saturday to a recommended mechanic with a Cardone Reman 22-207 Rack and Pinion. He calls me today and says it fits but the lines do not line up. Do I try the 22-203F or the 22-203T now? I see some are listed Ford gear and TRW and with/without performance suspension but I have no idea which to select.
    Please help ASAP!!!!

If the rack's already in it'd be easier to just replace the lines.

Iirc the TRW rack needs a brass adapter for the presuree line to fit. The return line is same, iirc. They should take the adapter off the outgoing rack - if it's a TRW unit.

If they're installing a Ford perf 2.5:1 rack (NOT the TRW unit) then they should replace the pressure hose with ah later one (1985+).

Must be a TRW rack as the 22-203f did not work either. Had to special order the 203t. Wish me luck. Thanks guys!

I expect the TRW 3.0 Turns LTL rack to be pretty scarce these days. Keep the core until you get it sorted - might need to have that one reman'd/reseled.

Or you could easily upgrade to the High-Perf Ford 2.5 LTL rack. Straight bolt-in with maybe one hose change. But then it wouldn't be all original/stock.

Where can I find the High-Perf Ford 2.5 rack Mike? I don't think the 22-203t is going to work either. <frustrated>

Many years ago (September, 2005) I rec'd a reman'd Ford Perf 2.5TLTL rack from these folks:

    http://www.buy-steering.com

    Order details:
RX15704s 1986-1993 Ford Mustang and Mustang II WITH PERFORMANCE POWER STEERING 2.5 LTL - Steering Rack & Pini 1 $149.00 $149.00
    Core-Deposit: 50 $50.00 $50.00
    Make-Model-of-Vehicle: 1986 mustang svo
    Year: 1986
    Steering-Type: Power
    Comments-Notes: red performance suspension
Shipping: Free UPS Ground Shipping - Plus Core Return Prepaid: $12.00
    Sales Tax: $0.00
    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Total: $211.00

Naturally prices and shipping costs have changed a bit. Contact them on their website (there's an email tab at the top) and ask about the TRW 3.0 LTL rack specific to the 1984 Mustang SVO (or optionally any Performance Power 2.5 LTL rack 1986 for Mustang (listed as 1986-1993 - all same). ALL mustangs 1986-1993 with any performance handling package came with the Perf 2.5 LTL rack.

Their products still come with a 3 year warranty.

Agreed, hang on to it. I picked up a reman TRW this past summer through The Mustang Shop in Calgary for a '79 we are working on and their distributor showed it to be one of the last they had on the West Coast. Not sure how limited their supplier is in their network but it is a "Parts Master 22-201T" I am keeping the core.

I replaced the TRW in my '82 GT with the Ford 2.5 LTL last year when I couldn't find one when I needed it (but exchanged the core-crap!) I also found out the same way that the hoses are different and changed them. The good thing was I was not in a rush like you. It was also recommended through a thread on FEP by Jack Hidley to change the pump when going this way because of a potential to run out of assist when turning LTL fast.

Thanks guys. The Cardone 22-203t did work with a little ingenuity and a nice price with an online promo code thru Advance Auto. No stock item had to come directly from the warehouse though. Seemed to do well (without an alignment so far) on the highway!!!!!

Good to hear it worked out. I got my rack and Pressure/return lines from National parts depot. They seem to carry quite a bit of svo specified parts and I've had great luck with them. It'd be worth getting on their site and getting a free fox resto catalog for reference if you don't already have one. Be careful because you'll end up buying alot.

Thanks for that info. I think we pulled a hose from an 85 donor too.
