As usual, they got their numbers mixed up.

In 1984 the SVO was rated at 175HP while the 4V v-ate was also rated at 175HP (manual only), the the CFI flavor rated at 165HP (automatic). For 1986 the EFI v-ate was rated at 210HP, with the SVO at 205/210 (depending on source).

I distinctly remember my 86 GT being rated at 200hp, down from whatever the 85 made.

If my memory serves me right, the 85 5.0L 4V was rated at 215hp vs 205 for the 85.5 SVO, then the 86 5.0L EFI dropped to 210hp vs 200 for the 86 SVO. Rumor was due to marketing demands to keep the 5.0L 10hp up over the SVO. I wouldn't be surprised, as GM did similar tricks in the Corvette vs GN's back in the day...couldn't let the little V6 have higher reported HP than the 'Vette ya know...

Majestic, good call. Had to go back to my reference material as apparently my memory is starting to get fuzzy. 85 5.0L carb = 210 hp, 86 5.0L efi = 200 hp, I was off by 5 hp in both cases...go figure!
