    Front contol arm color

Got em cleaned and ready for paint. Trying to decide between flat or gloss black or maybe silver?

The Ford Service parts (NOS) that I have are painted "Gloss Black", but all of the '85.5 and '86 original arms that I have seen are "natural". I would post pics from Daniel Carpenter's cars, but I have had zero success lately getting pics to load on this site.

Thanks Chalky. The picture is from Daniel Carpenter's '85.5 CP.

So basically you end up with a couple of different "colors" due to how the control arm is fabricated; bare steel for the spring pocket and cross tube and bare cast for the arms themselves. The bare cast will be a slightly darker gray than the bare steel.

Mine didn't look that good natural (dirty even after cleaning) and after blasting they didn't look like that either so I painted them Gloss black. Thanks for the input someone will need these facts down the road.

Actually, I thought yours cleaned up pretty good. Just needed to be masked off, primed, and painted the various colors. The concours judging hasn't reached this level yet...

I bet those things sure made a lot of racket tumbling around in that washing machine.

Best way to duplicate original would be to wire wheel them and then spray with a satin clear to keep them from starting to get typical raw metal surface rust. Used this on brake calipers also
