Just joined and bought my first SVO

My name is Drew and I'm down here in Fort Lauderdale. I've been a foureyed mustang fan and owner for a long time.

But just bought my first SVO, 1986 Black on Grey (of course), 55k original miles, its had a repaint in its life and needs some detail items, but I'm liking it so far.

    Some pics

Nice car! My brother use to drag race his 442 down Las Olas Blvd in the late 60's just around midnight. But that was then. Watch out for the Love Bugs.

    Thanks!

For now I'm replacing the a/c compressor, changing tail lights to correct ones, dew wipes and lowering it 1.5" with Steeda springs. Oh and I've go to refinish the dash face plate. Oh yeah and keeping an eye out for headlights and parking lights.

I'm just finishing up an 85 GT with 351w in it. Then I'll pay more attention to the SVO.

I thought the 85.5-86s had charcoal grey trim and stripes and the 84-85 had black. Mine are black.

If I am incorrect I'll be all that much happier. . Less to have to buy.

Sorry, I didn't realize they are black. You are correct they should be gray. I thought you meant the lines like cobra taillights. My bad.
those are technically 84 taillights for two reasons. They are black and the center line on the bottom row of stripes does not go the whole way to the edge. 85 86 taillight stripes went all the way.

Welcome to the club, car looks real nice, I am partial to black as I have a 84 and 85 black. Parts are getting harder and harder to find just keep your feelers out glad to see you want to make it right!

    Thanks for the welcome!

Man you are not kidding about finding parts. I did find a guy who has 8 svo parts cars but he hasn't answered my email about selling parts.

I'll have to look at mine, I was thinking the tail lights look fine. I have a set of new front lights for my car, found them at a Ford dealer a few years ago.

    Hi Drew
Really REALLY nice to see a "car guy" find an SVO (after working GT's/other cars)!! They are good cars - you will do ok as long as you don't stray too far from stock to fast. I took the time to read your other comments - yes improvements can be made without changing everything.

The use of the 3 grouve crank pulley takes the stress of the AC compressor off the water pump pulley.

Many will help here - just ask!

    Mark
P.S. PM me I will send you some items I see missing on your tailgate!!

Fixed my tail lights, not oem ones but I’m keeping my eye out for a set.

    Little by little.
