    Cruise Control on SVO

    To All,
Several years ago, I tried to install the Rostra aftermarket universal cruise control but I could never get it to work. It was probably my lack of electrical knowledge and wiring diagrams. Knowledge and wiring diagrams have been updated. So after a 12 hour road trip trying to hold a steady speed, it was time to think about adding cruise control.

While perusing the local pick-u-part, there was a listing for a foxbody mustang and it had a 2.3 and cruise control. I am wondering and has anyone every taken a cruise control system off of a foxbody mustang and installed it on an SVO?

According to the electrical schematics the 6 pins on the control box is from left to right are for circuits 57, 359, 150, 296, 151, 810 and go to connector 9AB40 (D25B-14489-AA). It appears that some of the circuits cross over or change to different circuits for instances pin 1 (57) from the controller goes out of the connector as 810, pin 2 (359) comes out to 151. Does anyone have a list of or know where to find the identifies of these circuits?

Using different search engines and key words did not turn up anything meaningful and the electrical diagrams do not list them.

The connector on the control box accepts two different plugs and looking at the cruise control systems on eBay there is one connector going from the vacuum actuator to the controller and the other connector from the controller goes in a 6 position plug somewhere near the steering column or in the driver side kick panel (this is my guess). Since our cars have brake and clutch safety switches, I believe the only things I really need to figure out is VSS signal, set, resume and cancel. My intent is to use the Rostra turn signal as input to the controller.

So has anyone attempted or installed a foxbody cruise control?

    Regards,
    Harry

No idea what others have done but keep in mind that pr-1987 there is no speed sensor on the SVOs so no speed input to the engine management EEC. Later systems (1987+?) that depend on a speed sensor will not work - or you will need to add the sensor and associated wiring.

Next up is there is no reliable vacuum source on boosted engines so all throttle management must be done by an electric motor.

My 84 GT turbo has factory cruise. I don't see why it could not be used on the SVO. The obvious first issue is the lack of buttons on the steering wheel.

on another note, Ford did offer a dealer install cruise kit which was supposed to fit everything. I bought one of these kits a while back but never used it on my McLaren. I have thought about selling the kit.
