Sturgis Mustang Rally Labor day weekend 2012

The 6th annual Sturgis Mustang Rally is coming up in late August. I have promised the show promoter that the SVOCOP will bring him at least 10 SVOs. They normally get 0 SVOs at the show. The promoter, not familiar with SVOs, wants to know how many classes we want since they do not normally have an SVO class. He will be working with us to help promote the car as well as the club. I'll post more details as we formulate the plans.

    The week long event includes:
    Car show
    Autocross
    Poker Run
    Drag Racing
    Auctions
Burnout competition (don't think we'll be competing...)

Here is a list of SVOCOP members currently planning attending:
    Mitch & Lisa Harris (1SVO )
    Chris Chalk (1SVO)
    Dave & Stacey Schmitt (1SVO)
    Scott & Lois Robinson (1SVO)
    Doug Marthaler (1SVO)
    Pat Pearson (1 Rental SVO)
Tony & Cindy Wright (1 SVO)
Mark Hass (1 White & Yellow SVO)
Flat Bob (He'll be sleeping on the floor, please don't walk all over him)

Accomodations are tough out there. We are renting an excutive house for the week. The options will sleep as few as 6 or as many as 18. I will send out updates on our accomodations to all that are attending & interested in the deal.

To find out more about the show check out the website:

Please thank Dan Jacobsen of Jacobsen Ford for accomodating us misfits & adding an SVO class for us!

I will send out an update on the SVO class soon.

I would think one SVO class initially. Until there are enough cars to justify separate 84, 85, 85.5 & 86 classes.

We could use the infamous Fuel Rail Trophy as the prize to the First Annual SVO Show Winner. To be returned the next year.

Yeah I don't plan on discussing multiple classes this go around, but it is an option he has offered.

I won't be in the hunt for any trophy, we'll probably be bringing the 2R, the stock autocross machine...SVOStacey plans to drive it a few times before Sturgis, then is looking to beat Mitch in the autocross.

Mitch won't autocross his own car. He has people to do that for him (Plausible deniability and all that). Lisa is his driver of preference. This could be fun to watch. Can you cay "Cat fight"?

I'll be there for sure! I think ultimately, if your going for multiple classes, it'd be best to switch up between stock and modified.

    UPDATE:

I spoke with the show promoter yesterday. He will supply me with artwork to print up club shirts with the SMR artwork on it. I will work on getting up a few design options. After I have a few options I'll set up a poll to narrow down to one. Any interest in shirts for the participants please check back for the poll.

I am also working on accomodations. I will have something booked by the end of the week. If you are interested in the accomodation deal it will be a rental house that sleeps between 10-16 people. Right now I have 8 people that have committed. If more people are interested let me know.

If you are sending in your registration please just indicate SVO for your vehicle. They will have one class specifically for SVOs. The promoter has little knowledge on Fox body cars & is looking forward to learning. Chalky is still on board to participate in the local radio show to discuss the SVO & the club. He'll be signing autographs throughout the weekend for a small fee...

I'll buy a shirt, but can't be counted on for attending.

Take Flat Bob, he'll do better at the Xcross just due to weight savings.
Enough of that, it was giving me a headache.

If I had a choice between Flat Bob and Flat Brooke, I think that Bob would lose big time.

Dave, what route do you plan to take? If I leave on Monday from Tulsa with Tony, where would we possibly meet up on the way Monday late afternoon or early evening?

    Pat,
I haven't gotten my travel dates sorted out yet. We could meet anywhere after Omaha (We'll be traveling on Interstate 29 from there, prior to that would be a backtrack for you guys). Still sorting out the dates...IIRC, I wasn't looking to leave quite that early...but things do change.
